Mary Claire Micheel (Pechie) was born in Madison, Wis. to William and OraBelle Pechie on December 19, 1946. God adopted her into his holy family through the sacrament of Holy Baptism early in her life. She attended Madison Lutheran School and Central University High School. She received her associate degree from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn., her bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, and her master’s degree in behavioral disabilities from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. As a social worker with various organizations, she served the elderly population and children and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. Sharing the good news of Jesus through Jesus Cares Ministries was a source of great joy for her.
She was married to Virgil Micheel on November 6, 1971 at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Their children Jon and Sarah prepared for the public ministry in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
Mary fell asleep in Christ on November 11, 2018 in Glendale, Wis. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter Maribeth. She is survived by her husband Virgil; by her son Jonathan (Cheryl) of Salt Lake City, Utah; by her daughter Sarah Seifert (Michael) of Midlothian, Va.; and by grandchildren Emma, Sophia, Ezekiel, and Noah Micheel and Jonah, Ethan, and Caleb Seifert.
A funeral will be held at Loving Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1pm on Friday, November 16 with Pastor Paul White officiating.
Memorials in Mary's name to Jesus Cares Ministries, Loving Shepherd Lutheran Choir, or Nebraska Lutheran High School in Waco, Nebraska would be appreciated.
