Obituary for Ruth Gladys Wallsten (Mundahl)
Ruth Gladys Wallsten 92, long-time resident of Mequon WI passed away January 6, 2019 at Serenity Villa, Slinger WI with family at her side.
Following cremation, interment at Wisconsin Memorial Park and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date in the spring.
Ruth was born January 31, 1926 in Roberts County, South Dakota to Endre and Randi (Eitun) Mundahl who immigrated from Norway. Traveling to California in the 1940’s to work for the war effort she met wounded WWII veteran Bernt Ambrosius Wallsten (Bert A.). They were married Aug 2, 1946 in Chicago, Ill and subsequently resided in Racine, WI for twenty plus years before relocating to Mequon. While in Racine, she was both a homemaker and assisted her husband with an accounting/tax consulting business. While in Mequon, she worked multiple office jobs including 15 years at Froebel Concrete & Masonry and 17 years for DJ Concrete & Masonry, finally retiring when well into her 80’s. She also spent many years with the Mequon Women’s Club.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years and nine siblings. She is survived by her sons Michael (Kay) of West Bend, WI, David (Bambi) of Adell, WI, daughter Lynda Nielsen of Bayfield, CO., four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many other loving nieces and nephews from her nine siblings as well as Bert’s side of the family.
Ruth had a talented passion for sewing and crafts and a knack for growing African violets. Music of any kind, from Big Band to crooners to the Beatles would always bring a smile and get her feet a tapping - she loved a good polka – Lawrence Welk reruns never grew old for her! She always enjoyed playing dominoes with her friends.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the years of compassionate care by the amazing staff at Serenity Villa in Slinger as well as all of the dedicated Horizon Hospice staff. Both of these teams were vigilant in bringing both mom and her surrounding family to a place of peace.
In lieu of flowers, anyone interested may make charitable donations online to the Weyenberg Public Library Foundation, Inc. for the Frank L. Weyenberg Library of Mequon-Thiensville to support the community Ruth resided in for more than 40 years.
